ABOUT

The mission of the Language and Art Academy is to prepare kindergarten through College level students to excel academically in different languages and arts, and to become bilingual and multicultural competent leaders.

We offer a very dynamic Spanish program for homeschool students and an after-school enrichment program, oriented to Elementary, Middle school & High School aged students.

The classes are offered once a week for 1 hour. Each semester includes 12 weeks of classes and a final multicultural project.  We will cover 3 modules per year. These dynamic classes include games, songs, conversation, writing skills, and multi-sensory activities.

We also offer a program oriented to High School students: “Teen Spanish Club”, where we combine writing and conversational skills in a multimedia and fun environment.

For those who need basic Spanish for business or personal tutoring for their Spanish classes at College or for Mission or Business short terms trips , we offer group or individual classes based on their personal needs.

Benefits of Bilingualism

Why Bilinguals Are Smarter

SPEAKING two languages rather than just one has obvious practical benefits in an increasingly globalized world. But in recent years, scientists have begun to show that the advantages of bilingualism are even more fundamental than being able to converse with a wider range of people. Being bilingual, it turns out, makes you smarter. It can have a profound effect on your brain, improving cognitive skills not related to language and even shielding against dementia in old age.

6 Potential Brain Benefits Of Bilingual Education

About 10 percent of students in the Portland, Ore., public schools are assigned by lottery to dual-language classrooms that offer instruction in Spanish, Japanese or Mandarin, alongside English.

Jennifer Steele at American University conducted a four-year, randomized trial and found that these dual-language students outperformed their peers in English-reading skills by a full school year's worth of learning by the end of middle school.
